Take a cheese road trip
Launched in 2020, by founders Patrick McGuigan and Tracey Colley, the Big Cheese Weekender returns in October for its third year, with three days of free online cheese events aimed at celebrating and supporting this sector. Be transported around the country, from fields and farms to dairies and maturing rooms, as well as cheesemongers’ counters and the kitchens of top chefs. All you have to do is buy the best cheese you can get your hands on, tune in and taste along.
Supporting local business
It’s been a roller-coaster couple of years for cheesemakers and mongers, who faced disaster when Coronavirus hit and devastated sales. British Cheese Weekender was set up in response to the crisis and was part of a groundswell of support to this remarkable industry. Thanks to these efforts, and the creativity and skill of the cheesemakers and mongers themselves, most have pulled through, but they still face huge challenges. Please support us in supporting these industry heroes and help secure the businesses of these and future generations of cheesemakers and mongers.

Our supporters
Big Cheese Weekender event is hosted by the Academy of Cheese. The Academy is an impartial, not for profit organisation, set up to promote cheese knowledge, cheese education and careers in cheese and welcomes everyone to spread the appreciation of truly great cheese. The Academy is immensely grateful to its Patrons and Supporters, without whom, could not continue its valuable work.

Previous Big Cheese Weekenders
To celebrate the amazing range of cheeses made by small producers in the UK and to highlight the crisis they face, the campaign cumulated in the British Cheese Weekender over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend in 2020. The three-day event encouraged the public to enjoy the country’s best cheeses with a series of free, online tastings by the country’s top cheese experts.
